The MLB Postseason has reached the Championship Series. The Matchups are set at the Milwaukee Brewers Vs the St. Louis Cardinals in the NL and the Texas Rangers Vs the Detroit Tigers in the AL. I think these match ups are pretty good, but I also hate the Yankees and Phillies so I’m just glad that they aren’t in it. We should get some good games out these for teams, since in the AL we’ve got a couple of teams that have been to the World Series recently & the two teams in the NL are divisional rivals.
First let’s compare the two teams in the Pitching department. In the Divisional series each team had 4 starters the Brewers went with Yovani Gallardo, Zack Greinke, Shaun Marcum, and Randy Wolf. The best of those 4 was Gallardo who started 2 games, in those 2 games through 14 innings he had an ERA of 1.29, a WHIP of 0.93, allowed only 2 runs, walked 3, and struck out 14. The others starters didn’t fare as well allowing 18 runs collectively, while none of them earned a win. The Cardinals 4 different starters in their NLDS games were Chris Carpenter, Jaime Garcia, Edwin Jackson, and Kyle Lohse. They had 2 guys that looked really good to me Carpenter who started 2 games went 12 innings and had an ERA of 3.00, a WHIP of 0.92, and only gave up 4 runs & Edwin Jackson who Started 1 game went 6 innings and had a n ERA of 3.00, a WHIP of 1.00, and gave up only two runs. When you just look at the names you may like the Brewers more, but I’ll give the advantage to the Cardinals because they have all looked good while the Brewers have really only had Gallardo has looked ready for the playoffs.
Now lets look at the offenses, both of these teams have big name guys that Blow the game up at any point. The Brewers have some guys you may have heard of in Prince Fielder and Ryan Braun, and the Cardinals have Albert Pujols, Lance Berkman, and Matt Holliday. With those names either of these teams could erupt at any time and take control of the series. I think I’ll call the offenses a Tie because they’re both so good its hard to pick one.
These Teams played 18 times during the regular season and they split the games right down the middle 9-9, and the Brewers scored 71 runs to the Cardinals 64. I can’t see this series being anything but a battle to the end. My Pick is Cardinals in 7
I can’t say I’m an expert on baseball especially the AL, but lets take a look at who’ll win this series. It’s a battle against a couple of teams that have lost the World Series over the past years, so they both know how to win the ALCS.
Lets’ take a look at the pitching match up. The Tigers have some guys with a lot of talent in Justin Verlander and Max Scherzer. In their ALDS games the only pitcher of theirs that really looked excellent was Scherzer he pitched in 2 games went 7.1 innings, had an ERA of 1.23, gave up 1 run, 4 walks, and struck out 7. The Rangers had a few guys that looked real good in their Divisional Series; Colby Lewis who had a 1.50 era through 6 IP with 6 K and a 0.50 WHIP, and Derek Holland who Pitched in 2 games with 6.1 IP and only gave up 1 earned run. Both of these pitching staffs are good, but I think Detroit having a guy like Verlander on the Staff puts them above
Now how about these offenses. The Rangers offense is what won them the series against the Rays, after the first game in which they got shut out the scored 8, 4, and 4 runs. They have some names they really pop up off the page when you look at their roster in Adrian Beltre, Josh Hamilton, and Elvis Andrus. The Tigers how ever have an equally impressive offense, here are a few names that come from their roster are Magglio Ordonez, Delmon Young, and Miguel Cabrera. I’ll take the Rangers Offense here seeing as how they went to the World Series last year, and have looked pretty impressive so far in the playoffs this year.
These 2 teams played each other 9 times this year, and the Tigers won 6 of those. This should be a good series. My Pick Tigers in 6
